Why Lamplet
Flashcards make words stick, and real Chinese makes them worth knowing. Lamplet puts the two in one place: spaced repetition brings each word back just before you would forget it, and the books, videos and podcasts you choose are marked by what you already know, so every page and every episode is study too.
How it's built
- Native apps in SwiftUI for iPhone, iPad and Mac, with layouts made for each and study that works offline.
- A browser extension in TypeScript and React for Chrome, Brave, Edge, Arc, Firefox and Safari, on a typed client for the same server the apps use.
- A Supabase backend: Postgres with row-level security on every learner's data, and edge functions that own the review schedule (FSRS) and the AI features.
- On-device text recognition for comics, PDFs and photos (PaddleOCR on ONNX Runtime), so pages never leave the device to be read.
- Two complete visual styles, Copybook and Night Market, each in light and dark, built from one set of design tokens, and a lantern animated in Rive.
- English, Spanish, Japanese and Korean interfaces, from one set of String Catalogs.
